The Culture of Australia

Australia adopt the Western culture, however, in some areas, they are unique exclusive as an Australian with some difference in way of life and practices.

Australians are down to earth and always humble as they always ensure that they are not casting an impression of being better than other people. They value being genuine, sincere and dislike being and people being pretentious. They prefer people who are modest, humble, self-deprecating and some sense of humour to engage in conversations. They do not focus their attention on their academic and achievements and tend to dislike people who do so. With their modest nature, they usually attach little importance on their success. This makes them seen as not achievement-oriented.

Australians valued relationships greatly and this often lead to a win-win situation in negotiating since everyone has a positive mindset help facilitate future encounters.

Besides, Australia is also a multi-cultural society because it’s initial population of Aborigines and people of British and Irish descent were mixed with the immigrates of Euro, Greece, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Yugoslavia, Lebanon and Turkey. This huge number of immigrates comes from the post-World War II and the active policy of encouraging immigration to job the Australia work force. In the last 30 years, Australia has opened it borders to South East Asia. Thus, there is also an increased in population and work force of Asian. With this huge inflow of foreigners, it caused a real shift in self-perception as Aussies begin to re-define themselves as a multi-cultural and multi-faith society rather than the old homogenous, white, Anglo- Saxon, Protestant nation.

With ‘Disneyfication’, more foreign workers entered the Australia work industry to participate because the government want to grow the population and more labours are needed for economy advancement. With more foreigners, more understanding about the foreigners and more interactions, Australia become a multi-culture and multi faith country.
